Dr. Milton Allen serves as both Director
of Bands and Instrumental Division Director at Eastern Illinois University, where he conducts the Wind
Symphony, Collegiate Band, University Band, teaches undergraduate conducting, guides
the graduate wind conducting program and oversees all aspects of
Eastern’s band program.
Prior to his appointment at EIU, Allen served on the music faculty
at Wittenberg University, conducting the symphonic band, chamber
orchestra and teaching various courses in music education.
In addition to his duties at Wittenberg he served as the Doctoral
Conducting Associate for The Ohio State University Bands.
A 17-year veteran of the public school rehearsal
room, Dr. Allen’s refreshing and practical approach to music
education has taken him throughout the United States, Canada, and
England as a clinician and guest conductor, with recent clinics
at the 2007 BASBWE/Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama International Wind
Festival in Glasgow, Scotland, the 2006
MENC National Biennial Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the 2005 Midwest International
Band and Orchestra Convention in Chicago, Illinois. This past year his appearances included the MENC North-Central, Northwestern and Eastern division conferences in Nebraska, Oregon and Connecticut and as a guest conductor/clinician/speaker with honor bands and schools.
Allen earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree
with honors from the University of North Texas, the Masters degree
in conducting from the University of Missouri-Columbia, the Diploma
of Fine Arts in Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band from the University
of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and the Doctor of Musical Arts from
The Ohio State University. He holds memberships in CBDNA, MENC and NBA.

Dr. Jeffrey Steiner serves the Eastern Illinois University Department of Music as Director of Athletic Bands, conductor of the Concert Band, and instructor of music education classes.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Steiner served on the faculties of Adams State College (Alamosa, CO), Western Kentucky University (Bowling Green, KY), Alderson-Broaddus College (Philippi, WV), and Indiana State University (Terre Haute, IN).
He received both Bachelors and Masters degrees at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Colorado at Boulder under the advisement of Distinguished Professor Allan McMurray. He has also studied conducting with Dr. Jack Stamp, and has clinic experience with renowned wind conductors H. Robert Reynolds, Craig Kirchhoff, Thomas Lee, Mallory Thompson, Richard Floyd, and Larry Rachleff.
Dr. Steiner has presented research at the College Band Director's National Association and is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician. He holds memberships in CBDNA, MENC, alumni membership in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and an honorary membership in Kappa Kappa Psi.

Tim Schmidt is a native of Hanna City, Illinois and a graduate of Farmington High School. He earned his Bachelor of Music with teacher certification at Eastern Illinois University, graduating with honors while receiving multiple awards and scholarships for his academic and musical performance. While at Eastern, Tim was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and the Panther Marching Band. After a December completion of his bachelor's degree, Mr. Schmidt taught Spring semester as the Band and Choir Director for Gardner-South Wilmington High School and Gardner Grade School in Gardner, Illinois. Most recently he was the Band Director at Downers Grove Christian School in Downers Grove, Illinois for 2 years.
Mr. Schmidt has appeared as a guest conductor, instructor, performer and adjudicator in addition to maintaining a private trumpet studio. He is a member of MENC, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Tau Beta Sigma and an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi.

Josh Kumpula is a native of Waukegan, Illinois. He earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois with an Instrumental Concentration. Josh was very active in the music department at Augustana, performing in a wide variety of ensembles including the Symphonic and Concert Bands, Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. He also held leadership positions, including the Augustana Symphonic Band Manager. After a fall term graduation, he was selected as a spring semester leave replacement, serving as Thomas Jefferson Middle School Orchestra Director and general music teacher. Mr. Kumpula then held the position of Instrumental Music Teacher for 2 years in Rushville, Illinois where his duties included directing the Junior High and 6th grade Bands, as well as serving as the Assistant Director/ Percussion Instructor for the Rushville-Industry High School Bands. In addition to his duties with the Bands, he also conducted the Orchestra for the RIHS productions of Fiddler on the Roof and Beauty and the Beast.
He is a member of the Music Educators’ National Conference, the Illinois Music Educators Association, the Percussive Arts Society and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Mr. Kumpala was selected as an EIU Graduate Band Assistant beginning Fall 2007.
