PREVIOUS MASTER PLANS:
1999 Master Plan
Scope of the Master Plan
The master plan will address the entire campus. However, there will be areas of
concentration. Research into the existing physical assets will be conducted.
Three buildings will be investigated in particular: Fine Arts, Life Science, and Physical
Science. The space needs of all campus departments will be reviewed. Exterior
campus needs will be examined, including traffic circulation (pedestrian, bicycle, and
automobile), parking, recreational areas, and other open spaces. Signage for the
campus, both to identify individual buildings and areas, as well as the appropriate means
to identify where the campus is located within the City of Charleston, will be
investigated. Lastly, Eastern's land use will be examined, including how the campus
will likely develop in order to address its spatial needs.
The resultant planning guidelines and recommendations will address campus needs for ten
to fifteen years. Planning beyond that time is unproductive because of the many
variables that are considered and often not controllable.
