In 1998, in accordance with the constitutional plan, the university solicited qualifications from interested consulting firms to coordinate a campus master planning process. Approximately 20 responses were received. A short list of four firms was interviewed, and the firm of Sizemore Floyd Conroy Architects, Chicago and Atlanta, was selected. The first meeting on campus with the consultants was held on August 24,1998 with the steering committee. The project schedule was reviewed and approved and visions of the campus were discussed. Raw campus data was provided to the consultants for their use throughout the project. Then came a "town meeting" and small group meetings to determine what needs exist and what ideas were held by the campus community.
In April of 1999, the final draft of the Campus Master Plan was presented to and adopted by the Board of Trustees. Since that time this document has become the guiding force for facilities and grounds development at Eastern.
In the year 2000, a Campus Master Plan review committee was assembled. This committee made recommendations and developed documentation to facilitate amending the plan to meet the current needs of the campus community.
Numerous applications for amending the plan have been submitted since then. Approved amendments (changes) are now on file with the printed version of the plan at the Booth Library Reference Desk.
Managing a Campus Master Plan is an ongoing process. A planned five year review of the 15 year plan is scheduled to begin in the Spring/Summer of 2004. It is an exciting time for the campus community to become involved in the future of the university's physical development.
