ISMAA 2008

Eastern Illinois University is located in Charleston, IL which sits on the edge of the prairie about 10 miles east of I-57 which runs norht-south through eastern Illinois from Chicago to Cairo. EIU is on IL-16 which runs east-west through the heart of Charleston and connects Charleston to I-57. Charleston is readily accessible by car and there is regular train service to Mattoon. The Mattoon Amtrak station is about 20 minutes from campus.

The main campus landmark is Old Main -- a large stone "castle" at at the northernmost end of the campus. Old Main is on the south side of IL-16 (which is Lincoln Avenue once it enters Charleston) between 4th and 7th streets and houses the administration and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The conference will be held in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union which is on 7th Street about 2 blocks south of Old Main.

Taking the Train

There are three trains a day both northbound and southbound which stop in Mattoon. Taxi service is available from the Mattoon Amtrak station to Charleston. The cost is about $25 for the trip (not per person). Phone numbers are listed below.

If you are planning to come by train please contact Peter Andrews at pgandrews@eiu.edu from the local arrangements committee. If there are enough people on any one train to make it feasible we might be able to provide a shuttle from and to the train station. If you are taking the train, you should plan to stay in Charleston rather than Mattoon.
