A Note From Our Director...
Known as “The SOUND of EASTERN,” the Panther Marching Band is recognized as one of the HOTTEST and fastest growing college marching bands in the state of Illinois. This is a distinction that we carry with great pride and honor. The 2013 season is shaping up to be one of the finest in PMB history. This fall includes another busy home football schedule including 5 home games, a road trip to Edwardsville High School, the 38th annual Panther Marching Band Festival, Band Day, and Alumni Band. This page will provide you with all of the information that you need to prepare for the first day of camp, as well as throughout the semester. Most importantly, continue to check back for updates throughout the summer. Please remember if there is any way my staff or I may be of any assistance to you, let me know. Required Panther Marching Band Registration Information
It is imperative that everyone fill out and submit the Preseason Information Form, Medical Form, and Uniform Measurement Form by July 15. IF YOU ARE NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE BAND THIS SEASON, NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY. If you have not filled out these forms, please do so no later than July 15.

Staff, Drum Majors, & Student Staff
All PMB Student Staff will meet in the Band Rehearsal Hall at 12:00 PM Saturday, August 11 for our workshops in preparation for Pre-Season Camp. All meals will be provided however housing will not be open until Sunday. NOTE: You may NOT move into university housing until Sunday August 12th starting at 9am so make housing arrangements.
Pre-Season Camp August 12-18
Attendance at Pre-Season Camp is mandatory. All other plans need to be cleared with our Director.
Panther Marching Band Early Move-In
All members need to make plans to move in Monday August 12 starting at 9am. You will check-in at the residence hall where you will be living. Members are encouraged to move-in to their residence hall first, get settled, eat lunch with family, and then report to Doudna for check-in. Check-in for Pre-Season Camp runs from 12pm-4:00pm. Should you need to add/update your dorm information after you have submitted your Pre-Season Form, please contact the Music Department.
Pre-Season Camp Meals
All new students to EIU are required to attend certain Prowl Activities & the EIU Reads program on Friday morning. You will not be penalized for missing any of the band rehearsal on Friday morning as the entire band will be taking the morning off in order to accommodate the EIU Reads program.
Memorize Pre-Game Music
Memorize your music! It is important that the traditional pre-game music that is posted on-line is memorized PRIOR to pre-season camp. Memorizing it now will provide a jump start for the season. Part assignments will be posted under the member's only section of the website as part placement hearings take place throughout the summer.
Important Uniform Information
Each PMB student is issued a uniform from the University at no cost. The band received new uniforms in the fall of the 2010 season. In addition, the band will wear a summer/rehearsal uniform consisting of the following:
PMB Shirt: These shirts are to be worn underneathe the uniform for all performances and while in uniform. The Official Nike PMB Shirt at $10 each.
Shorts: All PMB members will need to have black athletic shorts. Shorts are available through the PMB for purchase if you need them.
Ball Caps: These are required for game days and will be provided by the PMB!
Shoes – All Panther Marching Band members (except Colorguard and Dance Team) are required to order BLACK VIPER SHOES. If you have a different brand that are black and in good condition, you may use them.
Gloves – Hornline & Drum Majors must order a minimum of 3 pairs of LONG WRISTED BLACK GLOVES (2 for practice, 1 show pair). Drum Majors will order White Gloves.
Socks: You are required to provide your own LONG black socks to wear with the uniform. These are highly suggested because they will protect your feet from blistering, absorb perspiration, and keep your feet warmer in cold weather. It is recommended that you get two-three pairs so you will have enough for the entire season.

Music Lyres/Flip Folders
All wind players need to have a flip folder and lyre for your instrument during Pre-Season Camp and throughout the season. The band does not provide these. If you need to order a lyre or a flip folder, please contact the Music Shoppe Toll Free at 800-842-0035 or 217-356-8005.
Guard and Twirler Students
All flag/guard members will meet for their first session starting on Sunday at 2pm in the Band Rehearsal Hall on the first day of camp. You need to be checked in at this point. During this time, you will meet returning and auditioning members for this season along with this year’s student staff. You will also get more familiar with the audition process and information about the PMB marching band. All equipment will be provided and we will spend time learning basics the PMB way, along with routines and series that are anticipated to be used in our performances this year.
Drum Line Students
All drum line members will meet for their first session starting on Sunday at 2pm in the Band Rehearsal Hall. You need to be checked in at this point. During Sunday’s first session, we will be working on fundamentals and this season’s exercises. You will meet your instructor who has a phenomenal marching background. All instruments and equipment will be provided. If you have your own sticks and mallets, please bring them to camp. EIU Cadences and Pre-Game music are available online. We recommend getting familiar with this music for camp and the upcoming season.
University Owned Instruments
Currently we are able to provide piccolos, tenor saxophones, SILVER mellophones, SILVER baritones, SILVER sousaphones, YAMAHA Drum Line equipment, and guard equipment. These instruments will be issued during registration. As of 2013, there will be a $40 rental fee charged for these instruments. This is now required and cannot be waived. In addition, all flute players will need to bring their own or check out a piccolo for the marching season. A student acknowledges that he or she is financially responsible for repairs required beyond normal maintenance of the instrument, case or accessory. All EIU instrument repairs must be performed by an instrument repair technician designated by the Panther Marching Band. Repairs on instruments will be handled through the band office so please make sure you understand your financial responsibility when needing repairs. ALL EIU instruments are required to use the cases issued with the instruments. All marching band instruments must be returned to the band office by the due date indicated at time of rental, unless renewed for basketball band. A $50 dollar late fee will be assessed to your school account if not returned by the due date indicated at time of rental.
Regular Class Schedule
During the Fall semester the band will rehearse Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4-6:00 PM with an additional sectional once a week for Guard and Percussion. Saturday rehearsals will take place from 9 AM-10:30 AM on game days only.

Post Season Games
Post Season Game attendance is required for everyone. Read more about this in the SYSTEM handbook online. The Panthers are currently ranked very high in the OVC Conference so do not plan anything for the dates listed on your schedule.
Panther Marching Band Banquet
In November, the annual Panther Marching Band Banquet will take place. This is a formal awards banquet to recognize all members of PMB for their efforts throughout the season. Formal dining, guest speakers, and awards will fill the night with dancing following the awards portion. The cost is $15 per person.
