Welcome to the M.A. in Gerontology website at Eastern Illinois University. It is estimated that two of every ten Americans will be 65 or older by the year 2030. As the population ages, the need for persons knowledgeable about aging will grow. The possibilities for graduates include working directly with older persons in a wide variety of programs and services in the community and working on behalf of older persons in areas such as research, advocacy, and teaching about aging. The goal is to increase the quality of life for our aging population.
Our M.A. in Gerontology Program has been deemed a Program of Merit by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. Currently, only two masters in gerontology programs in the country have received this important distinction. I would also like to point out that we understand about juggling the competing demands of work, family, and career which is why our degree can also be earned during the evening hours.
For more information about the program, explore the options located in the side bar. Please feel free to contact me anytime at jrsnyder@eiu.edu. or at 217-581-7843. I wish you the best as you pursue your graduate education.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Snyder, Ph.D.
