Unique Departmental Features

  • The Department of Recreation Administration offers many unique opportunities to learning beyond the indoor classrooms.  The department provides practical experiences, outdoor learning, and social networking opportunities within the Major's Club and Rho Phi Lambda's National Honor Fraternity for Parks, Recreation and Leisure.

Practical Experiences

  • The basic curriculum provides many opportunities for practical experiences outside the classroom.  Students can receive credit for three full-time work experiences, which provide an opportunity for more than 1,000 clock hours with professional recreation agencies.  Students have engaged in field experiences in such foreign countries as Germany, Italy, and Crete.  The the U.S., students have gone to agencies from Maine to Florida and New York to California, as well as Hawaii and Alaska.

The Major's Club

  • Student involvement is encouraged in an active majors' club, the Student Association for Recreation.  The student group provides an excellent opportunity for 140 majors to become involved in a variety of educational, social, and athletic activities and to meet many new friends.  Faculty provide enthusiastic support to the majors' club.
