Paper Three

Research Paper on Approved Topic within Your Major

Points: 25

Due: Thursday, November 19, at the beginning of class.

Topics will be decided individually, and must be approved by me. As you think about topics to propose, recall our discussion about college-level topics (as opposed to what I called "high school speech topics") and narrowing focus. See this tutorial for further help. Since this paper is worth a substantial portion of your grade, I will expect you to do substantial research (like, 10-20 hours) before beginning to write.

Format:

The paper must be typed and printed, and double-spaced. It must be 2,500 words long or more (the word count does not include your references page). Research must be thoroughly and responsibly documented in APA or MLA (or another approved) style--whichever is appropriate for the paper. The paper must also conform to the other (non-research) style requirements set by APA or MLA.

Other Requirements:

Turn in printed copies of all the sources you used to write your paper; highlight the passages you used in your paper. If you used books as sources, you do not need to turn them in--but provide photocopies of the title page and the pages you used, highlighting passages that wound up in the paper as quotes or in paraphrasing.

Grading:

Papers must meet the assignment before I will grade them.

I will follow the standards suggested by Eastern's English Department. The "Process" category will not apply to this assignment, although your research will be graded separately. A grade of "C" or lower in any single category will trigger that grade for the paper.
