The Journalism Department at Eastern Illinois University offers students a number of opportunities to put their classroom lessons to work on award-winning publications.

The Daily Eastern News, a newspaper published Monday through Friday during fall and spring semesters and Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer terms, is edited and produced by students. Journalism faculty serve as advisers, but the students make all content decisions.

Eastern is one of the smallest universities in the country with a daily newspaper. This insures ample opportunity to work under the stresses of real life deadlines. The DEN maintains and runs its own Goss Printing Press, located across the hall from the newsroom.

Minority Today , a newspaper for and about the diverse groups of people at Eastern, is student produced and edited. This publication highlights the activities of minority students and the issues that affect them on Eastern's campus.

PounceOnline, an online feature magazine, is a recognized student organization created to give students the opportunity to learn how to write, photograph, design and organize content on the Internet. The department provides advisers to the publication, but, like The Daily Eastern News, students control the content.

The Warbler is the university yearbook. At Eastern a yearbook has been continuously published since 1919. Each year every full-time student receives a yearbook. Working out of the newsroom of The Daily Eastern News, The Warbler also is created on a computer pagination system which provides digital files that can be sent directly to the printer. The all-color yearbook serves as an excellent place for students to put their new editorial, graphic design and photography skills to work.

WEIU-TV and -FM Journalism students can receive a strong broadcast journalism experience through active work for newswatch, 30-minute newscasts and various sports and public affairs programs produced by the Radio and TV Center. Students get hands-on experience working in the PBS-affiliated studios and labs of WEIU TV.

The Vehicle is a student literary magazine designed and created by students majoring in journalism or other academic programs. It features short stories, photography, poetry and other works created by Eastern students.
