How do I change my password on UNIX? Logging In to the (UX1) UNIX System: Win95/98/ME/NT/2000 Users:
- Click the Start button and choose Run.
- Type telnet ux1.eiu.edu and then press OK.
Mac Users:
- Click on the Apple and choose NCSA Telnet.
- Click on File, then on Open Connection.
- Type ux1.eiu.edu in the Host/Session Name field.
You should now have a login: prompt.
- Enter your login name (e.g., cfxyz) and press <enter>.
- This action should bring up a Password: prompt. Enter your password
and press <enter>.
Changing Your Password At the eiu% prompt, type: passwd and
then press <enter>.
- Enter your user ID password at the prompt and then press <enter>
- Enter your new password at the prompt and then press <enter>
- Re-enter your new password at the prompt and then press <enter>
A valid password is case sensititve and has six to eight characters,
at least one letter (A-Z, a-z), and one number. Once you have successfully
typed a valid new password twice, your password is changed for your next
