How do I apply for a web account?

Web publishing: How do I publish my web pages?

Web pages can be published through internal features in most web page development products like Dreamweaver and Frontpage 2000. Instructions for using external ftp software are given below.

File Transfer (ftp)...
Netscape Composer...

The software can be downloaded through the links below.

WS_FTP LE - Free Download
Netscape Communicator - Free Download

CGI Suite: How do I add a counter, a form, or anything special to my web pages?

The CGI Suite is a collection of general purpose scripts that are designed for you to use in your web pages. The scripts (small programs) are all located in a special directory called cgi-bin. Please see the various documentation links above for more information on their use. Be aware that student accounts (www.pen.eiu.edu) can use only some of the scripts in the collection; for example, form processing and the odometer counter are not available on the PEN server.

The following links will take you to instructions on using our CGI scripts in your code.

access (full-featured form processor)...
cgicount (odometer counter)...
cgiform (form processor)...
manquery (search UNIX commands)...
palette (recurrent or random file selection)...
phquery (search campus people)...
redirect (drop-down hypertext)...
upload (transfer file to host location)...

How do I set up a search of my site within www.eiu.edu?

Option 1:

Eastern Illinois University has setup a Google University Search of our main www.eiu.edu site. You can use this search with additional hidden variable to search within your site. The bolded items will need to be changed specific to your account.

<FORM method="GET" action="http://www.google.com/u/EasternIllinois">
<INPUT TYPE="text" name="q" size="31" maxlength="255" value="">
<input type="hidden" name="hq" value="inurl:itshelp">
<INPUT type="submit" name="sa" VALUE="Search this subsite">
</FORM>

This will create a search box that looks like the example at the end of Option 2.

Option 2:

Another option would be to create a search that will offer the user the ability to search within www.eiu.edu, or the WWW. The Google logo is optional in your HTML.

<!-- Search Google -->
<FORM method="GET" action="http://www.google.com/u/EasternIllinois">
<TABLE bgcolor="#FFFFFF" cellspacing="0" border="0">
<tr valign="middle">
<td>
<A HREF="http://www.google.com/">
<IMG SRC="http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_40wht.gif" border="0"
ALT="Google"></A>
</td>
<td>
<INPUT TYPE="text" name="q" size="31" maxlength="255" value="">
<INPUT type="submit" name="sa" VALUE="Google Search">

<input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value="checked"> Search WWW
<input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value="www.eiu.edu"> Search www.eiu.edu
</td></tr></TABLE>
</FORM>

<!-- Search Google -->

This would look like:

How do I set up a search of my site within www.ux1.eiu.edu?

If you are a faculty or staff member, then you most likely have an email and web account on UX1. To set up a search of your UX1 account you will need to set up the following code. The bolded items will need to be changed specific to your account.

<FORM method="GET" action="http://www.google.com/u/EasternIllinois">
<INPUT TYPE="text" name="q" size="31" maxlength="255" value="">
<input type="hidden" name="hq" value="cfabc">
<INPUT type="submit" name="sa" VALUE="Search My Site">
</FORM>

This would look exactly like the search above with the exception of searching within your site.
