Post Installation Tasks | ITS
Installation Tasks The following criteria are required prerequisites that
must apply if an Express Install is to be scheduled. If any one of these
does not apply, a normal install will be scheduled.
- A network connection must already be available and easily accessible
at the installation location. The new computer will most likely make
use of the old computer’s LAN connection.
- Only basic access to EIU’s mainframe will be possible with an
Express Install. If any of the following is true, an Express Install
will not be possible:
- If you perform a host file transfer. That is, if you transfer
files between EIU’s mainframe and your desktop computer.
- If you have the mainframe send data to a printer attached to your
computer or server. This does not include simple screen image prints.
- On Intel machines, Express Installation will load the version of Norton
AntiVirus (NAV) that will periodically and automatically receive updates
from an on-campus NAV server. On Apple machines the NAV version will
require the user to initiate the database update process. The NAV application
will protect your computer from viruses. If this installation is not
acceptable, you will need to communicate this via the e-mail form that
will be sent to you prior to your installation. If you do not wish to
have NAV loaded, an Express Installation cannot be initiated.
- A good-faith effort will be made to install a locally attached or
network printer. The user is responsible for having the appropriate
documentation and CDs that came with the printer for use by the ITS
technician. Scanners, PDAs or other peripheral installations will not
be done and will be the responsibility of the user, ISS or local user
coordinator.
- Note that network drives and network printers will not be mapped during
Express Installation. Recording of network resources prior to installation
is necessary. The user, ISS or local user coordinator will need this
information for reassigning of network drives after the Express Installation
is complete.
- Note that authentication and enabling of Microsoft Office products
that are preloaded on the system will be the responsibility of the user,
ISS or local user coordinator.
If any of these prerequisites are unacceptable, Express Installation
will not be possible. You will need to communicate this via the e-mail
form that will be sent to you prior to any installation.
