Installation Tasks | ITS Installation Tasks The person requesting the Express Install must perform or guarantee that
someone else (such as an ISS or local unit coordinator) performs each
of the following. ITS personnel will not perform these tasks as part of
an Express Install. If the pre-install tasks are not completed, ITS personnel
may not be able to accomplish the install as scheduled.
- Users must back up their data and e-mail to a server or other location,
e.g., Zip, LS120 or CD-R drives.
- Record mapped network drives and printers.
- Identify and provide access to grounded power to be used and provide
a power strip. A typical installation requires an outlet for the computer
CPU unit, monitor, speakers, printer and any other external peripherals
(Remember, the other peripherals are the responsibility of the user.)
- Identify the location of and provide access to the LAN outlet. Notify
the Help Desk at 581-HELP if the LAN outlet is more than five feet from
the back of the new computer location so the installer can bring extra
cabling.
- Locate the new computer boxes in the vicinity of the new installation.
Mark the boxes with the new user’s name and location.
- Leave the packing slips on the boxes or have them available for the
installer.
- Please do not unbox the new computer or accessories.
- Clear the area where the new computer will be located. This may include
moving the old computer.
- Have available for the installer the network/server log-on user ID
and password. Contact the Help Desk at 581-HELP if these are not known.
