Installation Tasks | ITS Installation Tasks The Express Installation process is intended to help computer users get
their microcomputers installed more quickly than in the past. The main
premise of this new process is that ITS staff will perform a basic computer
install but will not customize or provide special assistance for the user.
Our goal is to provide quicker service at times when large quantities
of computers are ordered. Express Installs will have scheduling priority over non-Express Installs.
Express Installs will not change or bump already scheduled non-Express
Installs. Note that the priority for any install or problem assistance can be changed
via directive from a dean, director or higher-level administrator. This
priority setting will affect only those computers under the control of
that administrator. This document makes reference to staff (ISS, local
user coordinator) outside of ITS. Please check with these individuals
if you wish assistance from them related to the Express Install process. At the end of the install, the computer will:
- Be attached to EIU’s network and the Internet.
- Have Netscape Web browser installed and functioning.
- Have the latest free version of Eudora installed.
- Have Norton AntiVirus software installed. Automatic updating of the
virus database will occur on Intel machines.
- Have the basic EIU mainframe connection software, if needed.
- For Intel machines, have LANDesk installed for VPBA, VPSA, VPIA, president’s
area machines and VPAA machines upon request of user.
- Have appropriate EIU inventory control records updated.
- Have the appropriate vendor and EIU documentation presented to the
user and stored inside the CPU unit for future use.
During an Express Install, ITS will not:
- Load additional software.
- Install external or additional internal hardware devices.
- Customize Microsoft Office, Eudora or other software.
- Move data from other computers.
- Assist the user with other computer needs.
