IMPORTANT FINANCIAL AFFIDAVIT INFORMATION

We encourage you and your financial guarantor to contact the Office of International Students and Scholars if you have questions about the affidavit or supporting documentation. students applying for a U.S. visa to submit evidence to the consulate and the university that funding will be available for the entire duration of the academic program. Expenses for the first year must be readily available. Bank accounts with a substantial deposit will be required. visa officers in some countries may ask to see savings sufficient to cover all of the first year's expenses. If you receive a scholarship or other type of financial assistance, we will deduct that amount from the total expenses needed. Eastern Illinois University can not promise aid beyond May or August of any year.

Applicants with an income or savings of their own may execute the affidavit themselves. You may also xerox the form and submit statements from several sponsors. Parents, the spouse, brothers or sisters will be acceptable sources of funding. Students supported by persons other than those listed above, need to obtain a statement from the sponsor explaining why he/she will pay full or partial educational expenses. Self-employed individuals must submit evidence of annual income. Normally, a xerox of the latest tax return will provide this information.

We have been advised about restrictions on foreign exchange for applicants for Nigeria and Guyana. While we will not currently charge a deposit, we willcarefuly monitor the financial situation of students from these countries. If educational expenses will be met from sources inside the country, it is up the applicant to document that money can and will be transferred to the United States. Funding from outside the country will facilitate approval of the financial affidavit.

It has been our experience that U.S visa officers tend to reject applicants supported by distant relatives and friends. An advance payment may help although it does not guarantee a visa. It is fully refundable to the remitter in the event of a visa denial. However, no interest will be earned on the funds. Please request our policy for transmitting funds.
