The Network Operations and Engineering Core Group
provides management of and support for the campus data network.
The group maintains network infrastructure, such as the OC-12 ATM
backbone, gigabit uplinks to the backbone and core network devices,
including routers, switches, hubs, bridges, firewalls and packet-shaping
technology. Local area networks such as Ethernet, Token Ring and
wireless LANs are maintained by the group, as are wide area networks,
including areas such as Internet connectivity, dial-up modem pool
services, remote campus facilities connectivity and DSL/T1 circuits.
The Network Operations and Engineering Core Group also manages
and monitors network performance and health, analyzes statistics
and forecasts trends.
Fiber optic backbone cable plant design, maintenance, testing and
troubleshooting also come under the oversight of the group. This
includes both single mode and multi mode fiber termination and testing.
The group also deals with structured cable plant design, maintenance,
testing and troubleshooting, including UTP Category 5, 6 and 6e,
and IBM Type 1, and it provides network infrastructure design and
systems engineering. |
