New or Transfer Students beginning in the Spring semester:
Step 1: Apply online in MyEIU for housing in the Residence Halls or Greek Court by submitting the housing application and a $50 non-refundable application fee to establish a priority date for the assignment process.
Students must be accepted to the university to start this process. All room assignments are first-come-first-serve and based on availability. Once this payment is made, it will stay on file permanently.
Once the housing application and payment have been processed, access to RoomSync (roommate matching service) will be made available in MyEIU.
Step 2: A Room and Board Contract and Housing Preference form will be available beginning in mid-October for those students who have applied for housing, and must be submitted in order for the room assignment to be made.
For students who apply for housing after October, the room and board contract and housing preference form will be available once the application and $50 fee have been processed.
Step 3: Housing Assignment Letters are mailed in early December to all students who have submitted a room and board contract and preference form.
Students who apply for housing or submit the room and board contract and preference form after the first round of assignments can expect to receive their assignment as soon as it is made.
Step 4: The Housing Down Payment of $250 is due December 12 regardless of financial aid status. If the housing down payment of $250 is not received by December 12, the room assignment and contract will be canceled.
For students who apply for housing or submit the room and board contract and preference form after the first round of assignments, the $250 Housing Down Payment will be due the day of opening for the Spring semester.
The deadline to cancel the room and board contract if you are not going to be a student at EIU is December 12.
For students who apply for housing or submit the room and board contract and preference form after the first round of assignments, their cancellation deadline will be the day of opening for the Spring semester.
Students requiring special accommodations should contact Disability Services (217-581-6583) as well as University Housing (217-581-5111) or Dining Services (217-581-5733) at their earliest convenience in order to discuss their particular needs before coming to campus.
University Housing and Dining Services at Eastern Illinois University makes housing and roommate assignments based upon a student’s biological sex. We recognize that some students may have specific housing needs or concerns that will not be addressed by this practice. If you would like assistance in identifying the best housing options for you, please contact Kelly Miller, Associate Director (217-581-7718). Kelly will discuss your needs with you over the phone or in person to determine how best to match your needs with the housing options available. All information will be kept confidential to the fullest extent possible and shared with University staff only on an as-needed basis.
