New or Transfer Students for Fall
New or Transfer Students beginning in the Fall semester:
Step 1: Apply online in MyEIU for housing in the Residence Halls or Greek Court by submitting the housing application and a $50 non-refundable application fee to establish a priority date for the assignment process. Once the housing application has been submitted and the non-refundable fee has been paid, your application will stay on file permanently.
Students must be accepted to the university to start this process. All room assignments are first-come-first-serve and based on availability.
In February, access to RoomSync (roommate matching service) will be made available in MyEIU to students who have submitted the housing application and fee.
Step 2: A Room and Board Contract and Housing Preference form will be available online in MyEIU beginning in March for those students who have applied for housing, and must be submitted in order for the room assignment to be made. Optimal date to submit the online contract and preference form is May 1.
For students who apply for housing after March, the room and board contract and housing preference form will be available in MyEIU once the application and $50 fee have been processed.
Step 3: Housing Assignment Letters are mailed in late May to all students who have submitted a room and board contract and preference form. Optimal date to submit the room and board contract and preference form is May 1.
Students who apply for housing or submit the room and board contract and preference form after May 1 can expect to receive their Housing Assignment Letter in July.
Step 4: The Housing Down Payment of $250 is due June 12 regardless of financial aid status. If the housing down payment of $250 is not received by June 12, the room assignment and contract will be canceled.
The June 12 deadline is for students who get assigned in the first round of assignments in May.
For students who apply for housing or submit the room and board contract and preference form after May 1, the $250 Housing Down Payment will be due August 1.
The deadline to cancel the room and board contract if you are not going to be a student at EIU is June 12.
For students who apply for housing or submit the room and board contract and preference form after May 1, their cancellation deadline will be August 1.
Students requiring special accommodations should contact Disability Services (217-581-6583) as well as University Housing (217-581-5111) or Dining Services (217-581-5733) at their earliest convenience in order to discuss any particular needs before coming to campus.
