Andrews Hall, an all female residence hall in the South Quad of campus, opened in 1964. Andrews Hall was the first high rise building of nine floors
to be built on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. With
capacity of 500 residents, Andrews Hall is a location of constant activity, yet possesses quiet areas conducive for studying. Andrews Hall was named after Franklyn L. Andrews of the English Department and was dedicated on September 19, 1964.
Andrews Hall is staffed with one Resident Director , and one Associate Resident Director, both of whom live in the building. There is a Resident Assistant assigned to each floor. Resident Assistants are responsible for providing residents with personal, academic, and community programming to enhance the student's experience in Andrews Hall and Eastern Illinois University. Andrews Hall also has a hall secretary on staff during the day Monday through Friday. The Andrews Hall front desk is open from 9:00 a.m. until midnight Monday through Friday, with different hours on the weekend. A variety of services are offered at the front desk, including rental of VCR's, vacuums, movies, cooking utensils, and various board and card games.
Laundry facilities are located on each floor, consisting of two washers and two dryers. Also located in the laundry rooms are a double sink, irons and ironing boards, drying racks, aluminum can recycling bins, and the trash chute for easy disposal of garbage. Microwaves and stoves are available on each floor for the residents who like to bake and cook. Located in the basement of Andrews Hall are various beverage and snack machines, a pool table, big-screen television, and a study lounge. There is also a piano room in which students can practice and not disturb other students. Various activities are available for residents, including floor committees and the Andrews Hall Council. Andrews Hall also participates in Eastern Illinois University's annual Homecoming celebration.
