The Honors College has two scholarships
dedicated particularly towards
Incoming Freshmen.
The Presidential Scholars Award
The Presidential Scholars Program combines a financial award with a program of
concentrated student development and scholarship experiences designed to foster and promote
the highest possible standards of academic and personal excellence in students. For more

Criteria for Eligibility:
30 ACT (or higher) and a 3.5 GPA or in the top 10% of the high school graduating class
28 ACT and a 3.75 GPA or in the top 5% of the high school graduating class
Criteria to Maintain Scholarship:
Student must maintain a minimum 3.4 GPA
Up to twenty 8 semester tuition (15-hours) and fee scholarships will be given to incoming freshmen each year.
Applications are evaluated based on the high school transcript, extracurricular/volunteer activities, work experience,
an essay, and the recommendation of a high school faculty member or adminstrator.
Freshman scholarship applications are due on February 1st of each year.
Scholarships are awarded by the Honors Council which is composed of departmental chairs, Honors faculty,
and Honors students. Only applications submitted with an official transcript will be considered.
The Honors College Freshman Scholarship
The Honors College scholarship for incoming freshmen is open to students qualifying for admission to the University Honors Programs at EIU.
Criteria for Eligibility:
26 ACT (or higher) and
Top 10% of high school graduating class or a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Criteria to Maintain Scholarship:
Student must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
Applications for the Honors Freshman Scholarship will be evaluated based upon senior year courses, extracurricular/volunteer activities, work experience, an essay, and the recommendation of a high school faculty member or administrator.
The scholarships are awarded by the Honors Council, which is composed of department chairs, Honors faculty, and Honors students. Only applications with an official transcript will be considered.
