Class Activities 2012-2013
August 15th and 16th: Before our fall courses began, we traveled to Detroit, MI to see the Charles Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Henry Ford Museum. The trip provided an excellent way to jump-start our year by visiting a variety of museums and speaking with professionals and HA alumni.

Left: A behind-the-scenes peek of the textile lab in the Henry Ford Museum.

Right: We pause for some pizza at Buddy's on the first day.
October 6th and 7th: Our class dressed in period clothing and spent the weekend volunteering at Lincoln Log Cabin for their annual Fall Frolic. Stationed around the Sargent Farm we taught children's games, described the uses of herbs, and helped in the kitchen. Despite the cold morning, we enjoyed the chance to spend time outdoors and have fun.
Left: Danielle and Anna tell curious visitors about herbs used in the nineteenth century.

Right: Susan and Katherine demonstrate period games.
October 15th: We drove to Springfield, IL to meet with staff at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and the Illinois State Military Museum to assess some of the artifacts we plan to use for our exhibit this spring, "Experiences of the Illinois Civil War Soldier: Reflections through Art and Artifact."
