Freedom from Smoking Clinic

The Freedom from Smoking Clinic is associated with the American Lung Association. FFS addresses both the physiological addiction to nicotine as well as the social, psychological and emotional aspects of the smoking habit. The clinic distinguishes itself from other smoking cessation programs by being:

1. Resource rich - This program is designed to provide the participant with the best possible information and supportive educational materials.
2. High structured program - This program offers a systematic approach to quitting through a logical 7 week progression from awareness of the smoking habit to the actual behavior change of quitting.
3. Focused on behavior change - The focus is positive. The activities show participants how to change their behavior rather than emphasize scare tactics and disease discussion.
4. Maintenance rich - The program provides the participant with tips to stay smoke-free as well as a plan to maintain their behavior change.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a client-centered, semi-directed counseling approach. It is a method for changing behaviors by helping an individual explore and resolve ambivalence. It is a goal-directed approach to changing behavior.
