Viral Infections

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV): HIV,  is a virus that weakens the immune system. The immune system is responsible for fighting off illnesses and germs that cause diseases.

  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV): Human Papillomavirus, also known as venereal, anogenital, or genital warts, and condylomata acuminate, is group of viruses that includes more then a hundred different strains. Some of these viruses can be sexually transmitted and infect the genital area of both men and women. The virus lives within the skin or mucous membrane while commonly not showing any signs or symptoms.

  • Genital Herpes: Genital Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1(HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). The majority of Genital Herpes cases are due to HSV-2 and have minimal to no symptoms. It is transmitted through contact with an infected are which can include sexual contact.

  • Hepatitis B Virus: Hepatitis B is a liver disease cause by the Hepatitis B Virus and takes 6 weeks to 6 months from the time of exposure to become detectable within the body. It can be either newly acquired (self-limiting) or chronic. Chronic cases are significantly more sever and are more common in individuals who contract the virus at an older age. According to the CDC, among persons with chronic HBV infection, the risk for premature death from cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is 15%–25%.

Bacterial Infections

  • Chlamydia: Chlamydia, also known as "The Clam" and "Gooey Stuff", is a bacterial infection caused by Chlamydia Trachomatis. It is known as the “Silent” STI due to it’s lack of symptoms in most individuals who are infected. Chlamydia can do serious irreversible damage including infertility in women and sterility in men.

  • Gonorrhea: Gonorrhea, also known as "dose", "clap", and the "drip", is a bacterial infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This bacteria can live and multiple in areas of the body like; the cervix (opening of the womb), the uterus (womb), the fallopian tube (egg canals), the urethra (urine canal), the mouth, the throat, the anus, and eyes.

  • Syphilis: Syphilis, also known as "Pox" and "Bad Blood", is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidun which is an organism passed through direct contact. Syphilis is known as “the great imitator” because of the similarity between it’s symptoms and that of other infections.

Parasitic Infection

  • Trichomoniasis (Trich): Trichomoniasis is a genital infection caused by a single-celled protozoan parasite named Trichomonas vaginalis.
