Fraternity & Sorority Life

Things to Read...

There are a variety of really good blogs being written that provide information to help you as a leader, as a fraternity/sorority member, and as a person. The links below will take you to some amazing people, with amazing thoughts to share. If you come across any other blogs that should be considered for this page, just send a note to the Interim Director of Fraternity & Sorority Programs, Nathan Wehr, and we will check it out.

Erin Weed, "Girls Fight Back"

Erin is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, and has spent most of her working life fighting to prevent violence against women, and helping women prepare to defend themselves. Make sure to read her biography to get a full understanding of what drives her passion to help "girls fight back." She remains a good friend of the EIU Fraternity/Sorority Community, and a major supporter of Alpha Phi at EIU.

Phired Up

Phired Up is a group of people who are committed to supporting and growing the fraternity movement to make the world a better place. They provide workshops, consultations and resources on fraternity & sorority recruitment, social excellence, and pretty much anything else that interests them. Two of the key partners in Phired Up, Jessica Gendron Williams, and Colleen Coffey-Melchiorre, and graduates of the College Student Affairs program at Eastern Illinois. They are both members of Alpha Sigma Tau, and Jess is a member and advisor with the EIU chapter.

Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV)

AFLV is the premier association for student-driven leadership programs and conferences. The AFLV blog includes posts from undergraduate students and professionals in fraternity/sorority advising. The posts get particularly interesting during their conferences and service-learning trips. Make sure to start by reading Mark Koepsell's post on "The Land of What If." Mark is another graduate of EIU's graduate program in College Student Affairs, and joined Phi Delta Theta while at Eastern.

T.J. Sullivan, The Hungry Student Leader Blog

T.J. Sullivan is a co-founder of the leading agency for college speakers, Campuspeak. His blog covers a variety of current topics, and gives great advice to student leaders. He is also more than ready to be a contrarian and looks for ways for all of us to rethink what we are doing within the fraternity/sorority world.

Fraternal Thoughts

Fraternal Thoughts is a blog devoted to examining the role of the fraternity and sorority in today's world, as well as ideas and practices for ensuring their sustainability.
