Dr. Melody Wollan, associate professor of management, currently serves as the coordinator for the graduate program in business administration. The graduate program offers a Master of Business Administration with an option in Applied Management, an option in Research, and a concentration in Accountancy. The program is accredited by the AACSB-International.
Dr. Wollan's research interests lie with individual level behavior in work environments. Specifically, she has a goal of developing practical and theoretically supported processes for organizational exits and managing the exit process effectively. Her dissertation focused on the effects expressed by coworkers when a colleague exits, or the "snowball effect" of turnover. Related, she has been researching organizational ceremonial activities for different types of exits (e.g., voluntary, involuntary, retirements, downsizing), and how employees engage in information and feedback seeking behavior to attain workplace knowledge. She has presented research at Academy of Management multiple years, the Institute of Behavioral and Applied Management (IBAM), European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS), Western Academy of Management and Eastern Academy of Management. Work with former PhD student Dr. Sharon Kendrick has earned three recent honors: 2007 IBAM Best Paper in HR Division Award, and the 2009 North American Management Society Distinguished Paper Award on Conference Theme and the 2009 Midwest Business Administration Association International McGraw-Hill/Irwin's Distinguished Paper Award for Conference Theme. Recent publications are "Recall of autobiographical memory: A longitudinal analysis of franchisee experts" that appears in the International Entrepreneurship & Management Journal, and "Motives for helping: Exploring cultural influences on extra-role behavior" in the Multinational Business Review. She is currently the Associate Editor of the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management, and serves on the Editoral Review Board of the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, and as an ad hoc reviewer for Journal of Managerial Issues, Journal of Small Business Management, and Career Development International.
The MBA at EIU prepares students for positions of leadership in business, education and industry. The program takes a strategic management approach to learning about business and addresses a broad range of business-related skills emphasizing a combination of team work, writing, contemporary global and ethical issues, and analytical skills.
The MBA with the Applied Management Option is focused on “hands-on” development of students’ intellectual and creative capacities. A unique characteristic of the Applied Management Option is the Management Simulation that is completed as the capstone experience. The simulation allows students to make real business decisions that impact the success of their business while competing against other teams of students participating in the simulation from schools around the world.
The MBA with the Research Option is designed for students who want to focus on business research and quantitative methods for research. Students would want to complete the Research Option if their goals are to continue their education and pursue a Ph.D. or if they have an interest in conducting research with a faculty mentor. Students completing the Research Option are paired with a faculty mentor to guide them through the completion of a research project and through the Ph.D. program application process.
The MBA degree with the Accountancy Concentration is intended for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in accounting and prepares students to meet the requirements necessary to qualify to take the Certified Public Accountant examination.
