The graduate program offers a master of arts degree in English with four concentrations: literary studies, literary studies with creative writing emphasis, composition and rhetoric, and professional writing. Dr. Smith received his doctorate in literary and cultural studies from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003. His areas of interest include eighteenth-century British literature, and literary and cultural theory. Admission to the graduate program in English requires an application to the Graduate School (on-line at http://www.applyweb.com/apply/eiu/menu.html) as well as an application to the Department of English.
