Frances Meyer Hampton
Graduate Scholarship Award
Title: Frances Meyer Hampton Scholarship Purpose: The Scholarship was established by the family of EIU Alumna Frances Meyer Hampton to provide two years of financial support for a full-time graduate student in a master's degree program at Eastern Illinois University. Award: The total scholarship award is $20,000.00. The scholarship will be paid in four $5,000.00 installments beginning in the Fall 2010, and continuing through Spring and Fall 2011, and Spring 2012 terms. Eligibility The candidate must provide evidence of acceptance as a full-time graduate student in a master's degree program at Eastern Illinois University, must retain degree status in the selected program and provide evidence of full-time enrollment (9 or more semester hours) each semester that support is available, must have demonstrated good character, must have high scholarship ability, must demonstrate financial need, and must have demonstrated a potential for worthy future achievement. Deadline: 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 22, 2010 Number: One award per year Selection: Award winners are selected by the Awards Subcommittee of the Council on Graduate Studies. Obligation: Candidates selected for the award are expected to attend the Distinguished Graduate Students Awards Ceremony to receive their award. Applying: Qualified students should submit applications directly to the Graduate School. The following materials constitute a complete application packet:
A letter of application from the student which includes identification information (name, social security number, address), a clear statement of financial need, and a statement focusing on the applicant's professional goals.
A letter from the department verifying that the student has been accepted to a master’s degree program at Eastern Illinois University. The award will support two-years of full-time study; however, students enrolled in a one-year program of study may apply and should note that their program of study is one-year.
Transcripts verifying high scholarship ability.
A letter from the Coordinator of Graduate Studies in the selected master's degree program that supports the criteria for the award which includes good character, high scholarship ability, and potential for worthy future achievement.
Two additional letters supporting that the applicant meets the criteria for the award that includes good character, high scholarship ability, and potential for worthy future achievement.
Betty Wright Downing
Graduate Scholar Award
The Graduate School is accepting nominations for the 2010 Betty Wright Downing Graduate Scholar Award. The Award was established by the family of Betty Wright Downing to provide financial support for a full-time graduate student enrolled in a graduate degree program at Eastern Illinois University related to a pre-medical or health related field. Eligible programs include Chemistry, Communication Disorders & Sciences, Family & Consumer Sciences, Physical Education, Biological Sciences, Counseling and Clinical Psychology. The 2010 award is a result of the combined effort of the EIU Foundation and the Graduate School.
The award recipient shall be a graduate student in the field of pre-medicine or another health related field.
The recipient must have a high academic standing in all graduate level courses as well as in his/her undergraduate coursework.
The recipient must show a potential for success in his/her chosen field.
The recipient must prove involvement in campus and community activities.
The recipient must produce the appropriate written recommendations.
Completed nomination packets are due from Coordinators to the Graduate School. The following materials constitute a complete application packet:
A letter of nomination from the Coordinator of Graduate Studies.
Three (3) letters of recommendation verifying the nominee's potential for success in his/her chosen field.
A list of the nominee's activities verifying involvement in campus and community activities.
A short personal goals statement written by the nominee.
The Graduate School will automatically include transcripts for each nominee.
Completed nomination packets are due to the Graduate School by 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010.

Annie L. Weller
Undergraduate or Graduate Scholar Award
The Graduate School is accepting nominations for the 2010 Annie L. Weller Undergraduate or Graduate Scholar Award. The Award was established by the family of Annie L. Weller to provide financial support for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in social sciences, history, or physical sciences accepted to Eastern Illinois University. Requirements for the scholarship include that the recipient shall plan to pursue a career in teaching, shall have a minimum GPA of 3.50, and shall be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in one of the social science, history, or physical science programs listed below.

BS or MA in Economics
BS in Geography
BS in Geology
MS in Natural Sciences
BS in Physics
BS or MA in Political Science
BA in Psychology or Specialist’s in School Psychology

Completed applications packets are submitted to the Dean of the Graduate School, Eastern Illinois University. The following materials constitute a complete application packet:
A letter from the applicant that verifies that the applicant has enrolled in an eligible program, has a 3.50 or higher GPA, and that provides the applicant’s plan for pursuing a teaching career in the designated field of study.
Three letters of recommendation from faculty members, employers, or other representatives who know the applicant’s academic or teaching history and can verify that the applicant is enrolled full-time in an eligible program, plans to pursue a teaching career and who can further amplify the applicant’s academic excellence and potential for pursuing a teaching career in the discipline.
Completed application packets are due to the Graduate School by 4:30 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009.
The Awards Subcommittee will review the nominations and recommend the award recipient. Graduate candidates selected for the award will be expected to attend the Distinguished Graduate Student Awards Ceremony to formally accept the award.
Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois (DFI) Fellowship The Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in (DFI) Illinois Program Board and the Illinois Board of Higher Education has applications available for the 2009-2010 DFI Fellowship Program. The DFI program annually provides competitive fellowship awards to over 100 Illinois minority graduate students. The program aids students to complete graduate degrees (master’s or doctoral) leading to faculty or staff positions at Illinois higher education institutions. Applicants must be enrolled full-time and file their FAFSA by February 1, 2009 in order to be eligible.
Award winners may receive up to $20,000 in scholarship stipend. Completed applications must be submitted to Eastern Illinois University's DFI Representative on or before February 20, 2009 at 5pm.
