The building has been substantially completed and is occupied. Punch list items remain to be completed, which is normal to any project.
Dvorak Concert Hall - the copper band shell is being installed and is scheduled for completion this week, with work probably extending into the weekend. Once the copper work is done and the contractor has vacated the site, the flooring work on the stage floor will begin. This work will include filling areas where the finish floor is missing, sanding the new and existing flooring, and providing a new finish. This work is scheduled to be completed September 8. At a site meeting today, the contractor reconfirmed this schedule.
Site - EIU Grounds personnel are in the process of grooming the ground around the building and getting grass planted. The green matting around the detention basins is to help control erosion until the grass can develop a good root system.
Construction Trailers/Fence - The contractors are in the process of moving their construction trailers out of the lot between Fine Arts and the MLK Union. CORE's two trailers were removed this afternoon and the others are supposed to be gone by Friday. The construction fence will remain for a while due to the clean-up necessary within the space. CORE anticipates that the fence will be removed towards the end of next week. Once the fence is gone, Grounds will be installing barriers at the Union Bridge and entrance to the old parking area to prevent vehicle access.
There are site repairs that remain to be done which include some walk replacement on the north side of Band Rehearsal and at the entrance to the old parking lot where curbs and paving was removed to install utilities. Construction fencing will be used to enclose areas where this work is being done. This work is anticipated to be done over the next couple of weeks.
