Five Year Dry Fire Standpipe System Pressure Testing:  

REQUESTED BY:  Dan Deeken, Environmental Health & Safety  


DATE/TIME:  Thursday, October 12, 2017  1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.  (2 ½ hours)                 

PURPOSE OF PROPOSED OUTAGE:  To conduct required five year dry standpipe pressurized two hour testing of building standpipes.  Charleston Fire Department will be assisting with standpipe testing.  Fire department vehicles will be present during testing.  

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS / SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Building entrance with standpipe will have fire hoses connected during building test.  Both Charleston Fire Department and EIU employees will be present in building stairwells from 1st floor to building rooftop during testing.  Fire alarms do NOT have to be disabled during this testing, all buildings will have active fire alarm system.

Steam Outage:  


BUILDINGS OR AREAS INVOLVED:  Lincoln, Stevenson, Douglas, Tower Dining, Lantz Arena and Student Rec Center  

DATE/TIME:   Friday, October 13, 2017  5:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  (12 hours)  

PURPOSE OF PROPOSED OUTAGE:  Repairing steam valves in tunnels due to steam leak  

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS / SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  No hot water for restrooms, showers, laundry rooms and food service.  No steam for cooking.  No steam for drying clothes at Lantz Arena.  Occupants may notice cooler than normal temperatures in the buildings due to no steam.

Electrical Outage – University Apartments:

BUILDINGS OR AREAS INVOLVED:  University Apartments  

DATE/TIME:   Monday, 10/16/2017  10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon (2 hours)  

PURPOSE OF PROPOSED OUTAGE:  Electrical maintenance  

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS / SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  No electricity for stoves, microwaves, receptacles, lights, etc…This will also affect the heat for the buildings.  Flushing of stools will still work.

McAfee Elevator Work:  

REQUESTED BY:  Eric Wahls, Facilities Planning & Management  

BUILDINGS OR AREAS INVOLVED:  McAfee parking lot, South side of McAfee and sidewalk on the South side of McAfee  

DATE AND TIME:  Beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2015 through duration of McAfee elevator work

PURPOSE OF PROPOSED OUTAGE:  Construction, staging area & path for installation of new elevator 

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS / SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Seven (7) parking spaces, including 2 ADA spots in the Southeast corner of McAfee parking lot will be taken as part of the construction/staging area.  Three (3) parking spaces immediately to the West will be taken to make two (2) temporary ADA parking spaces.

Student Services Bldg. Entrance Closure:

REQUESTED BY: Eric Wahls, Facilities Planning & Management

BUILDINGS OR AREAS INVOLVED: Student Services Building, South East / Financial Aid Entrance

DATE & TIME: Starting Tuesday, March 17, 2015 around noon and continuing through the duration of the construction work.

PURPOSE OF PROPOSED OUTAGE: Construction work for installation of new elevator.

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS / SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: The South East entrance and stairwell will be closed for construction. The Office of Financial Aid will be accessible from the set of double doors farther to the East end of the building facing the parking lot on the South.
