Building Service Workers (BSW)

Building Services is responsible for custodial services for all academic and administrative buildings and other areas of campus, including changing of fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs. These areas are serviced Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:00am - 11:30am.  

Like most departments across campus, the BSW staffing has been reduced due to budget restraints, resulting in cleaning schedule changes in the academic facilities.  Public areas that students and prospective students frequent will continue to be given the highest priority possible.

• Public restrooms will continue to be cleaned at the highest possible level on a daily basis.
• Classrooms will continue to be cleaned on a daily basis with the blackboards/whiteboards cleaned, floors swept, and trash emptied.
• Hallways will continue to be cleaned daily and buffed or burnished at least weekly.  Hallway trash containers will be emptied daily.
• Offices will be cleaned weekly and trash containers emptied weekly.  Office trash containers with food waste should be taken to common areas in the hallways where containers are emptied daily.

Though buildings outside doors and lecture rooms are normally unlocked by the Building Service Workers (BSW’s), work shifts will not cover all openings and lockups.  The University Police Department, can be contacted when no building service personnel are available.

Requests for specialized cleaning, or other custodial projects above the established frequencies are considered special custodial services and should be directed through the Work Control Department. Emergency clean up or reports of special needs should be reported to the BSW Supervisor through the Work Control Department.
