Does a student need a new I-9 when hired?

A student needs a Federal Form I-9 the first time he/she is hired for a job on campus. The I-9 will remain on file the entire time the student is enrolled at Eastern. A new I-9 is not needed each time the student is hired for a job. A new I-9 is required each year for International Students.

How many hours may a student work?

A student may work 42 hours each pay period during the fall and spring semesters. During summer, a student may work 56 hours each pay period. If enrolled, international students are limited to 20 hours per week due to DHS rules. If not enrolled summer, international students may work 56 hours each pay period.

Does a person have to be enrolled in classes to be eligible for student employment?

A person must be enrolled in six semester hours to be eligible for student employment, however during summer a student may work without being enrolled as long as he/she completed at least six semester hours the preceding spring semester.

What is minimum wage?

At the present time minimum wage is $7.75 per hour.

How does a student find a job on campus?

Students may check the job board in the Office of Financial Aid or make direct contact with departments. Job listings can also be found here.

Do all departments post openings with student employment?

Most departments post positions with our office. However, students need to make direct contact with the departments also.

What is Federal Work-Study?

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a government program. A student must apply for FWS when filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). By indicating that you are interested in student employment, you will be considered for Federal Work-Study. If a student is awarded FWS it will be listed on their Financial Aid Notification letter. FWS guarantees a student employment on campus. A student must be enrolled in a minimum of six semester hours.
