Financial
Aid time line of a high school junior:
- Collect information on several potential colleges.
- Research and apply for private scholarships, grants and other aid
sources.
- Register for and take the A.C.T.
Financial
Aid time line of a high school senior:
- Fall-
- Narrow potential colleges to a choice set of two to four schools.
- Visit potential schools and obtain application information.
- Spring-
- Complete and mail the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA).
- (Approximately four weeks later) Receive the Student Aid Report
(SAR).
- Eastern Illinois University runs verification process and sends
to you the Aid Notification Letter with listing of all aid for which
you are eligible.
- If student loans are offered:
- Aid Notification Letter must be signed and returned with
amounts accepted.
- Promissory notes will be issued after acceptance of loans
- The applicant must return the signed servicer copy of
the promissory note prior to disbursement of loan funds.
Financial
Aid time line of a college freshman:
- First aid disbursement is first day of classes, paying amount owed
directly to the University.
- Any excess amount above what is owed to Eastern Illinois University
is mailed to the student at his/her campus address in check form.
**Sometimes the application process does not reflect a family's real
situation - due to special circumstances such as death, divorce or separation,
disability, loss of employment, natural disasters, etc. If this happens,
please request special consideration with a signed statement to the Office
of Financial Aid at Eastern Illinois explaining your unusual circumstances.
