Electronic Master Promissory Note (Empn)

Complete your Empn after July 1, 2008 at
http://dlenote.ed.gov

1. To sign your Empn, you must have these items:

• Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the Department of Education. This is the same PIN you used to file your FAFSA online. If you do not know your PIN or do no have a PIN, go to www.pin.ed.gov.
• Your driver's license number.
• Your Social Security number.
• Names and addresses of two references who have known you for at least three years. One reference should be a parent or legal guardian. The references must be two different people at different addresses within the United States.

2. The process of completing all screens and signing your Empn takes approximately 30 minutes. Be prepared to complete the entire process as there WILL NOT be an opportunity to save your work.

4. Use the link to technical assistance on the Empn page, or call 1-800-557-7394 if you have browser or other technical problems. Internet Explorer is the recommended browser for the Empn website.
