Didactic Program in Dietetics
Mission and Program Goals
The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at Eastern Illinois University is housed within the School of Family and Consumer Sciences. The mission of the Didactic Program in Dietetics is to provide students with Foundation Knowledge and Skills through theory-to-practice, relationship-driven education preparing graduates to competently participate in a Dietetic Intership. The program is committed to instilling in students the ability to be critical and independent thinkers while working in a team environment and promoting an appreciation of and dedication to the profession of dietetics. The Didactic Program in Dietetics is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312/899-5400.
The following program goals have been identified for the years: 2007-2016
- Prepare graduates to have the Foundational Knowledge and Skills as defined by the ADA for entry-level dietitians in our diverse society.
- Continue to promote dietetics, and its diversity, as a viable career option/program.
- Continue to support the needs of the DPDby offering a wide variety of learning experiences, in and out of the classroom, that provide theory-to-practice and relationship-driven education.
Suggested Timeline for Program Completion
The sequencing of chemistry and other science classes is critical due to prerequisites for several DPD courses. Suggested minors include: business administration, chemistry and psychology.
