University Committees

Elected Committees
The Faculty Senate administers elections for the following committees during the spring semester of each year. To be eligible for election to these committees you need to be: 1) tenure or tenure track faculty member 2) filled out a nomination form and 3) answered questions specific for the committee you are interested in serving on. Nomination forms and committee questions can be found in the Faculty Senate minutes during the spring semester. Any additional question should be directed to the Vice-Chair of the Faculty Senate.

The CAA considers proposals and makes recommendations to the President through the VPAA Provost, who is an ex officio member of CAA, relative to all undergraduate degree requirements, with the exception of teacher preparation programs. The purview of CAA includes new course proposals, changes in content, numbering system, hours granted, etc. CAA also has the responsibility and authority to make recommendations on admission standards applicable to beginning undergraduate and transfer students; regulations on retention and readmission of dismissed students; general requirements for undergraduate degrees; and all University requirements for graduation.

Council on Teacher Education (COTE)
The COTE recommends to the President through the VPAA-Provost, who is an ex-officio member of COTE, broad policies concerning teacher education. Specifically, it is concerned with policies on admission to Teacher Education, student teaching, placement of student teachers, and all undergraduate and graduate curricula leading to teacher certification. It has joint responsibility with the Council on Graduate Studies (CGS) for recommendations concerning new degrees, requirements, standards, etc., affecting graduate students who are preparing to teach. The Dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies is the executive officer.

Council on Graduate Studies (CGS)
The CGS is the primary advocacy group and governing body for graduate programs. The CGS makes recommendations to the President through the VPAA-Provost, who is an ex-officio member of CGS, relative to such matters as academic standards in graduate study, academic requirements for graduate degrees and certificates, admission of students to graduate study, program modifications or deletions, curriculum changes, the graduate assistantship program, and regulations governing the appointment of graduate faculty. Further, the CGS serves as an appeal body for graduate students wishing exemptions to published University regulations. The Dean of the Graduate School and International Programs is the executive officer.

Council on Faculty Research (CFR)
Limited state appropriated funds have been made available to researchers at Eastern Illinois University for research approved by the CFR. The CFR is comprised of nine members representative of the different academic areas of the University. Proposals for funds are submitted to the CFR at the beginning of each academic year. If adequate funds remain, a second round of proposals is generally requested early in the spring semester. Additional information and appropriate forms for CFR application may be obtained from the Office of Grants and Research. Phone 581 2125.

Faculty Senate
The Faculty Senate represents the faculty in all matters not covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Senate meets every Tuesday in Booth Library 4440 at 2:00 p.m. during the academic year and minimum of once during the summer term. Minutes of the Senate meetings are distributed to all faculty and major administrative offices. The Faculty Senate agenda is posted weekly on the Web and at 4440 Booth Library. Visitors are encouraged to attend meetings.

Appointed
The Faculty Senate will publish a list of openings on the following committees during the spring semester of each year. At that time, interested tenure or tenure tack faculty can inform the Chair of the Faculty Senates Nomination Committee of their interest in serving on one or more of the committees.

Apportionment Board, Campus Recreation Board, Enrollment Management Advisory Committee, Health Services Advisory Board, IBHE Faculty Advisory Board, Intercollegiate Athletic Board, Judicial Board, Library Advisory Board, Parking Advisory Board, Parking Appeals Committee, Publication Board, Radio and Television Center Board, University Union Advisory Board, Tuition and Fee Review Committee, Achievement and Contribution Award Committee.
