On behalf of the Office of Faculty Development at Eastern Illinois University, I would like to welcome you wholeheartedly to our office and its website. It is my desire  that this website is filled with teaching resources and tools that will support teaching and learning. As Boyer’s (1990) work suggests, institutions of higher learning should support the scholarship of teaching, the scholarship of application, the scholarship of discovery, and the scholarship of integration. I want you to know that we are striving to support you!

The primary aim of the Office of Faculty Development is to make Eastern Illinois University known as a welcoming, supportive, informative and responsive work environment by focusing on faculty life and career growth. Throughout the year, we provide various services and workshops designed to fit the needs of our faculty and our campus built around our motto of "Promoting the Wholesome Professor" while providing teaching, research, and service. A “wholesome” faculty member is indicative of a faculty member who is physically fit, mentally ready, emotionally healthy, scholarly prepared and socially engaged.

As a faculty-friendly office, we recognize we have a job to do, and that job is to serve. Whether you are a tenured, tenure-tracked, or annually-contracted faculty, our job is to serve you. From new faculty orientation to veteran faculty circles, our primary goal is to promote excellence in teaching and learning by providing resources, communication, and strategies to support, strengthen, recognize, and celebrate high quality and innovative teaching
