February 21, 2006 Meeting Notes

Present: Gary Hanebrink, Sandy Baumgartner, Martha Brown, Sheila Baker, Chuck Phillips, Dan Carpenter and Jeff Cross. Monica Mazzaro from the Red Cross also attended the meeting to discuss mass care issues.

Mass Care

The Environmental Health & Safety Committee has been discussing topics relevant to what could happen should The Governor declare that EIU facilities will be used for mass care. If that were to happen, the IBHE would notify us. The Red Cross would be assigned to operate any such facilities.

Ms. Mazzaro, working with Gary Hanebrink, has surveyed the Field House in an effort to identify what might be necessary should that building be designated a mass care facility.

Campus Safety Officers from Illinois Universities will meet sometime in the next couple of weeks. Mass care will be on the agenda for that meeting. The scenario for the spring 2006 table-top disaster drill will be a mass care situation.
