March 9 , 2004 Meeting Notes

Guests Present: No guests were present.

Meeting

•  Discussed an e-mail regarding recombinant DNA.

•  Tabled discussion on e-mail regarding recombinant DNA since quorum is not available and to allow other input and discussion from committee members. Would like to draw a conclusion over the next couple of months.

•  Discussed the need to establish a Institutional BioSafety Committee (IBC).

•  Need to obtain a list of courses, faculty members, and researchers who deal with recombinant DNA.

•  As a committee, we need to send our recommendations for a Facility Reporting Officer or BioSafety Officer to Jeff Cooley and Blair Lord. Academic Affairs may be responsible for managing biosafety research and in the classroom. It could be a new position or give the responsibilities to an existing employee or faculty member.

•  Approved minutes for January 13 th with noted corrections – Charles and Chuck.

•  Discussed the Colts.

•  Chuck discussed the OSHA 300 log.

•  We stand average.

•  Need a worker's compensation log.

•  Work restrictions – Money/Worker's Compensation

•  Sandra

•  Safety Committee working on a survey for faculty to help include everything in the safety training program being designed for graduates, students, and faculty.

•  Gary

•  Cadaver, Chemical Storage, and Fish Ecology rooms in Life Science Building will use the remaining dollars from the $1,300,000 in EHS capital (RAMP) for ventilation improvements.

•  Robert Bates

•  Slip and Fall in handicap parking spaces.

•  Response from Grounds was “We will get there.”

•  East side of Lantz

•  Need to look into handicap priority for snow removal and sanding.

•  Robert and Gary

•  Drivers Training on Web – Target audience are those who have had accidents.

•  Must have training before reinstating them to drive university vehicles.

•  There is a cost in doing this.

•  There is a possibility in identifying a student to get credit for developing a Web program for classroom time.
