March Minutes
Environmental Health and Safety Committee
3/5/02 Meeting Notes
Present: Gary Hanebrink, Jeff Boshart, Patti Bailey, Joe Wall, Sandra Baumgartner and Karen Nantz.
Bloodborne Pathogens Plan Review
Gary distributed a draft of the revised Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Plan and asked for comments. Once the Committee accepts the document, it will go to the Vice President for Business Affairs for approval and, if approved, will be made a part of the campus safety manual.
Disaster Drill
The Business Affairs table-top disaster drill took place March 4 and went very well. A representative from Media Relations participated in the drill and prepared press releases, etc.
Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Plan
There was some discussion about employee Categories I, II and III (beginning on page 9). Category III is, for the most part, tasks performed by Category I employees. That being the case, does Category III need to be revised or made a part of Category I? Should “all supervisors” be stricken from Category I? There is a problem with Item 4.1.4 on the bottom of page 10. The heading says “Category III” and the language under it says “Category II”. It was suggested that Item 4.1.5 be revised to read “Employees and students may choose to receive the HEP B vaccine series at their cost”.
Chemical Hygiene Plan Focus Group
University Professionals of Illinois (UPI) have advised that faculty should not participate in providing training unless compensated.
The notes from the February 5, 2002 meeting were approved.
