Student Organizations in English

Three student organizations are closely affiliated with the Department of English. Our faculty also serve as advisers for several university-wide RSOs.

English Club

English Club is open to all students, regardless of major, who have interests in literature, language, and writing. English Club holds student poetry readings, sponsors readings by faculty members and panels by faculty members on career planning and graduate school, coordinates group trips to theater productions locally (Charleston and Champaign), and organizes other social and academic activities of interest to its members.

For more information about English Club, contact Dr. Ruben Quesada.

Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau DeltaThe Upsilon Gamma chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honor society, was founded at Eastern in 1932. It grew out of the Writer's Club, and has always promoted the study of literature, creative writing, and fellowship among English majors.

Each year Sigma Tau Delta produces The Vehicle, a campus literary magazine, sponsors an essay contest for high school students, and has a book sale to raise funds for other projects.

If you have any questions, contact Dr. Christopher Wixson.

Harry Potter Club

The Harry Potter Club provides a fun but academic forum for all fans and enthusiasts of the Harry Potter books and movie. Members do crafts, play trivia games, have YouTube nights, and more at their weekly meetings, 7 p.m. in Coleman Hall Auditorium (CH 1255). Join them on Facebook at Harry Potter Club (Official EIU RSO).

For more information, contact Dr. Fern Kory.
