1. Submit no more than 5 poems at one time, or one short story, or one creative non fiction prose essay, or 5 black & white drawings. Fiction / prose should be no longer than 3500 words.

2. Submissions in more than one genre are acceptable, but must be submitted separately. Always enclose SASE for reply and return of material. Sufficient postage is necessary for return of work.

3. No previously published work is accepted. Simultaneous submissions no longer accepted.

4. Submissions accepted September 1 - February 15. Publications will be in the Spring issue of the following year since we only publish annually. PLEASE NOTE DATES!!

5. KARAMU is operated by a small staff since we are a not-for-profit magazine. We are sometimes slow. Initial screening may take 6-8 weeks, and sometimes longer for works we are seriously considering.

6. If work is accepted, we need brief biographical information focused on your work. You will be contacted before the magazine goes to press.

7. Published authors receive a complimentary copy of the issue containing their work, and may purchase extra copies at pre-publication price.

8. For sample back issues of KARAMU please send a check for $6.00 for two. Recent issues are $8.00. Click here to print a subscription form.

9. Watch for announcements of future themes or contests in Sept/Oct issue of POETS & WRITERS. Past issues have included themes such as: "The Humor Issue," "The Music Issue," "The Millennium."
