C. C. Wharram was appointed Director of The Humanities Center at EIU in January of 2014. His areas of interest include translation studies, Romantic and Gothic literature, and the intersections between literature, philosophy, and science in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. His writing has appeared in Germanic Review, Gothic Studies, Nineteenth Century Literature Criticism, the collection Translations of Romantic Texts, and the collection Staël's Philosophy of the Passions: Sensibility, Society, and the Sister Arts, and was selected to participate in NEH Summer Institute (2013), The Centrality of the Translation to the Humanities: New Interdisciplinary Scholarship. He is editor of the forthcoming special volume Translation Theory in Practice: Teaching Romantic Translation(s) for Romantic Circle Pedagogies, and is currently finishing a book manuscript on the role of translation theory and practice in the Romantic movement.
