Grade Level Requirements
Pre-School to Grade 3
Twenty-four hours of reading coursework (including a reading practicum) and the reading teacher examination.
Primary K - 4
Twenty-four hours of reading coursework (including a reading practicum) and the reading teacher examination.
Middle Grades 5 - 8
Twenty-four hours of reading coursework (including a reading practicum), the reading teacher examination, and six semester hours of middle grades courses.
Secondary 9 - 12
Twenty-four hours of reading coursework (including a reading practicum) and the reading teacher examination.
K - 12
Any grade level endorsement from primary through secondary may be added to this certificate by meeting the appropriate requirements.
Note: Individuals who meet the requirements for Admission to the Graduate School, but do not meet the requirements for degree candidacy in Elementary Education (e.g., Secondary Teachers Grades 9-12) have the opportunity to complete the reading teacher requirements on a non-degree seeking basis or may choose to pursue the Graduate Certificate in Reading Instruction.
