Applications for the 2008/2009 Scholarship are no longer being excepted.
Applicants were notified of the results in mid-August.
For questions, please contact eiufour@eiu.edu
The EIU4 Scholarship rewards EIU freshmen who demonstrate good initial
progress toward completing an undergraduate degree in four years. The
scholarship fund consists of three $1000 scholarships ($500 per
semester) available to freshmen enrolled in the EIU4 Program at Eastern
Illinois University. The scholarship is applicable to any educational
expense (tuition, fees, room and board, etc.) and will be applied to
any outstanding University balance before award checks are distributed.
Initial
Eligibility
To be eligible for the EIU4 Scholarship, applicants must meet all three
of the following requirements:
1. Applicants must be admitted to EIU starting Fall 2009.
2. Applicants
must be eligible for EIU4, Eastern’s four-year graduation
program. Regularly admitted, new full-time freshmen ready to declare
an eligible major are eligible for EIU4. All majors at EIU--with the
exception of ALL teacher certification programs, the engineering cooperative,
the nursing cooperative program, clinical laboratory science, the
athletic training option, and the environmental biology option--are
eligible under EIU4. Note: Students who are unable to complete 1/4 of their course requirements in one academic year because of deficiencies in high school course work or ACT scores are not eligible for EIU4.
3. Applicants must have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.00
out of 4.00.
Continuing
Eligibility
Scholarship recipients must remain eligible for the EIU4 for the duration of the scholarship period by adhering to the requirements
of the program. See the Student
Responsibilities.
Scholarship Decisions
All applicants must meet the “Initial Eligibility” requirements
described above. Scholarship decisions subsequently will be based
on (1) the quality of the required essay, which must detail the applicant’s
education/career goals; and (2) financial need determined by the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The EIU4 Coordinator
will
notify applicants via letter when scholarship decisions have been made.
Scholarship
recipients are selected and notified in August. The first $500
installment is disbursed in August after the student has been verified
as being enrolled at Eastern Illinois University and accepted into EIU4, and having a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0
out of 4.0. The second $500 installment is disbursed in January
after the
student has been verified as having met the requirements for continuing
eligibility. Scholarship funds will be applied to any outstanding
University balance before checks are issued to recipients.
