Office of Housing and Dining Services
Position: Associate Residence Director, Residence Halls and Greek Housing
Housing Website
Live-in graduate student sharing joint responsibilities with full-time staff member in communities between 150-850. This team members’ key responsibility is to provide an atmosphere where students develop to meet their highest potential in both our Residence Hall and Greek Court communities. Administration, staff development, counseling, advising, supervising, and coordinating programs is essential.
Requirements: Residence Hall or Greek Life experience preferred. Ten month appointment with 12 month option.
Remuneration: $850-900 per month, housing, meals, professional development funds, and tuition waiver (excluding fees).

Office of Greek Life
Graduate assistants for the Office of Greek Life are hired by the Office of Housing and Dining services as Associate Resident Directors for Greek Court. Candidates interested in a GA in Greek Life should apply and interview for the Associate Resident Director position.
Office of Minority Affairs
Position: Graduate Assistant for the Office of Minority Affairs
WORK SCHEDULE: Graduate Assistant is expected to maintain a regular work schedule of 20 hours per week.
Recruitment and Community Relations
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Advise 10-15 Gateway Students.
2. Attend 2 nights of study tables.
3. Attend Gateway Orientation scheduled for Sunday, June 03 – Monday, June 04, 2006 (Office of Minority Affairs will provide housing and a stipend).
4. Attend Mandatory Professional Staff Training scheduled for August.
5. Assist minority recruiter on all pre-collegiate, transfer and high school activities for the department.
6. Serves as the liaison between recognized student organizations regarding recruitment initiatives.
7. Takes leadership in coordinating one or more recruitment phone-a-thons with the Office of Orientation.
8. Assist with student training for recruitment.
9. Coordinate departmental representation at university sponsored programs, Open Houses and any area meetings.
10. Attend monthly meetings with Director of Minority Affairs/Graduate Assistants/Intern Students
11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Minority Affairs.
SUPERVISORY INSTRUCTION: Supervision will be received from an Academic Advisor in Gateway.
Office of International Studies
Position: Graduate Assistant
International Programs provides services for approximately 150 international students on the EIU campus. We are looking for a graduate assistant who enjoys multi-cultural experiences and desires developing relationships with students from around the world. The graduate assistant assigned to our office will be asked to do the following:
1. Assist with EIU International Student Orientation--This requires the assistant to begin work one week prior to the first day of classes at EIU. This will include night hours (this week only).
2. Provide effective arrival assistance for the specific needs of international students. This includes preparing temporary housing arrangements through EIU Housing Office.
3. Work closely with the established Conversation Partners and Family Friends programs each semester.
4. Help with the daily needs that arise within the international population, for example, driving to the Social Security Office, planning and leading shopping trips to Champaign, maintaining guest apartments, and counseling with international students.
5. Possess a willingness to possibly travel internationally for short term recruitment trip.
This position will require driving a ten passenger van.

Office of Study Abroad
Position: Graduate Assistant
The Office of Study Abroad currently sends approximately 250 students abroad a year and is continually growing. At this time, we are looking for a GA who has a unique combination of both technical and people skills to assist us in advancing our objectives. Requirements: Web Design (Dreamweaver, MySQL, PHP), Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite. Other Desirable Traits: international experience, strong organization and communication skills, and attention to detail.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (in current order or priority):
1. Work closely with the directors of faculty-led study abroad programs in putting together and maintaining promotional materials or web pages that highlight their programs, and improving the organization and presentation of this information as a collective whole.
2. Work closely with departments in putting together and maintaining study abroad materials and web information that highlights programs that work well for their majors, and improving the organization and presentation of this information as a collective whole.
3. Work on various technical and web-based tasks/projects for the Office of Study Abroad. This crucial responsibility will require technical knowledge and expertise.

- Make improvements to Course Database
- Create online student application system
- Create online faculty-led proposal system
4. Assist with the planning and implementation of various activities and events.
5. Assist with various daily needs that may arise in the Office of Study Abroad.
6. Represent the Office of Study Abroad at some University-sponsored events.
7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Study Abroad.

Office of School of Continuing Education and the
Bachelor in General Studies Program
Position: Graduate Assistant for Research/Projects
1. Graduate Assistant will assume leadership in conducting a retention program designed to contact BGS students (adults) who have stopped out and who need a little nudge to help them become active again.
2. Conduct research on an assigned project.
3. Provide assistance in the development of a interdisciplinary graduate program.
4. Assist in office coverage when necessary
5. Participate in university and School of Continuing Education events as assigned, such as:
- Non-Traditional Student week
- Tent City/Homecoming activities
- Advisory committee meetings
- Adult Degree Completion Fairs
The BA in General Studies Program works with adult learners who are not usually on this campus but rather are completing their degree requirements at off-campus locations or via internet courses.
The successful candidate will be someone who displays an understanding of some of the issues adult learners face when attempting to complete an undergraduate degree while meeting their other responsibilities such as work, family and community. Some travel may be required.
Office of Student Life
Position: Graduate Assistant
Supervision
The Graduate Assistant position is one of four in the Student Life Office. The graduate assistants work under the general supervision of the Director of Student Life, with additional supervision by the Assistant Director of Student Life and staff.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include overseeing the advisement of the University Board, the entertainment board, Multicultural Programs - Black Student Union, Latin-American Student Organization, Diversity in Action Council, LEAD, Student Government, Student Volunteerism, Student Organizational Leadership Services and Major University Events— major concerts, Back To School, First Night, Homecoming Week, Family Weekend, Up All Night, and Spring Fling. Qualifications
*Bachelors Degree and acceptance into EIU Graduate School
*Acceptance into a Eastern Illinois University Master’s Degree Graduate Program of choice.
*Undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 (on 4.0 scale) and MAT or GRE scores.
*Maintain full-time graduate student status and completion of the 48-credit hour CSA degree or Master’s level program of your choice.
*Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
*Excellent written and oral communications skills.
*Effective organizational, planning and conceptualized skills.
*Demonstrated ability to work with and provide staff assistance to students and student groups of varied cultural backgrounds; sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural diversity issues a must.
Preferred Requirements
*Undergraduate experience in student programming and activities, student leadership development, student volunteerism, multicultural programming and/or Student Government.
*A strong commitment, knowledge-base and understanding of student development, training and programming is essential.
*Highly motivated individual with good interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
* Computer Technology and Graphic Design knowledge and skills set are a plus.

Student Success Center
Position: Graduate Assistant
Work Schedule
Graduate Assistant is expected to maintain a regular work schedule of 20 hours per week
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator and the Assistant Coordinator with the development and facilitation of services and initiatives fostering student learning support.
2. Teach 5-6 sections of a course designed to help students on academic warning succeed in college.
3. Provide individualized academic assistance to students to improve their learning skills.
4. Offer ongoing support and referral services to students seeking to improve their academic performance.
5. Assist in the preparation of annual reports and the compilation of assessment data.
6. Conduct outreach efforts to enhance the learning environment at EIU including workshops, classroom presentations and staff information sessions.
7. Provide assistance in the development and maintenance of publications.
8. Other duties as assigned.

Office of Orientation
Position: Orientation Coordinator
Coordinate the orientation and transition programming for over 3,000 new students and their families annually. Responsibilities can include:
* the development and implementation of staff recruitment, selection and training for over 75 students annually,
* facilitating prospective student events and programs,
*development and facilitation of orientation and transitional programs,
* facilitating leadership programs,
* teaching classes,
* marketing and publication development,
*and supervising staff.
Requirements: Experience in orientation and admissions preferred. Strong experience in student leadership positions (student activities, residence life, Greek life, etc.) preferred. Position is a twelve month contract and begins June 1, 2007 (preferred 2 year commitment).
Remuneration: $850 per month and tuition waiver (excluding fees) from September to April; $1,000 per month, meals (when dining is open) and tuition waiver (excluding fees) from May to August.

Office of Career Services
Position: Psychology/Sociology Graduate Assistant
1. Develop outreach methods to increase number of students from Psychology and Sociology utilizing services provided by Career Services
2. Critique resumes and cover letters for students from Psychology and Sociology (individual student meetings)
3. Develop programming for students, classrooms, and RSO’s dealing with Sociology and Psychology including resumes, services, etc.
4. Assist students with DISCOVER (computer program for selection of major)
5. Recruit employers for Psychology and Sociology to job fairs and to participate in resume critiques and mock interview programs on campus

Position: Substance Abuse Education Coordinator

- Provide leadership to the AlcoholEdu implementation team
- Market and promote AlcoholEdu program and mandate to all new and incoming students, parents and other members of the EIU Community
- Oversee Illinois Higher Education Center AlcoholEdu Evidence-based grant, including reporting requirements
- Track completion of AlcoholEdu, place holds on those students not completing Part 1 and Part 2 by required deadlines
