Graduate Assistantship Description
TITLE OF POSITION: Study Abroad Graduate Assistant
WORK SCHEDULE: G.A. will normally work a regular 18 hours per week schedule. May include some evening and/or weekend work. Please be aware of this possibility.
REMUNERATION :
1. $750.00 monthly stipend
2. Tuition waiver (excluding fees)
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinate the scheduling of Classroom Presentations among Faculty, Visitors, and Peer Advisors.
2. Assist the Director and Coordinator of Study Abroad with major projects such as website design, course compiling, data entry, and event planning.
3. Assist Peer Advisors in advising all students who are interested in study abroad from the initial phase of First Step, to Program Planning, and Pre-Departure Orientations. This includes offering encouragement, help clarifying choices, relating personal experiences when appropriate, highlighting other resources, and giving support. [Peer Advisors are usually one of the first people that students meet when they come into the office to discuss Study Abroad programs.]
4. Become familiar with all of the EIU programs and as many non-EIU programs/consortiums as possible in order to be able to recommend program options to students.
5. Assist with pre-departure orientations throughout the semester for both independent and faculty-led study abroad programs.
6. Help keep the Resource Center organized. Straighten up books, re-file materials, keep tables and chairs neatly arranged, etc. Keep bulletin board up to date and other promotional materials.
7. Conduct classroom presentations around campus as needed.
8. Conduct informational sessions as needed.
9. Other duties as assigned
