ANNOUNCEMENT! Block I classes will no longer be offered in the summer beginning with Summer 2010. Consult with your academic advisor if you have questions about long-range course planning. Block II will continue to be offered. Seats will be limited. Priority will be based on completion of prerequisite criteria as posted in the department office.

The Block schedule is prepared to offer another view. We will not be providing paper copies, but students are welcome to print their own from the Student Resources page of our Department Website. The dates and times for Block classes are posted on PAWS and should be followed as the official schedule.

All Block courses are subject to instructor change and room change until the semester begins. Select your Block preference based on your plans for practicum in either the morning or afternoon, not the instructor or location.

Application to Student Teach - Mandatory meetings are held in the Fall semester of every year for students planning to student teach in the following academic year. Students who wish to student teach in Fall 2009 or Spring 2010 must attend a meeting in Fall 2008. Contact the Department of Student Teaching and Clinical Experiences if you have questions about when you should attend this very important meeting. A list of meeting dates is maintained on the website for the Department of Student Teaching and Clinical Experiences ,the website for the College of Education and Professional Studies , as well as published in the Daily Eastern News and University Newsletter and posted throughout campus.

Application for Department Approval to Student Teach - Click here to print an application form from your computer. The current version being accepted has "Oct 2008" in the upper right corner. Applications are due no later than Friday, September 4, 2009 for all Early Childhood and Elementary Education majors planning to student teach in Spring 2010. The application should be submitted to 2171 Buzzard Hall, NOT THE STUDENT TEACHING OFFICE.

Attention: Beginning with Fall 2010 Student Teaching Candidates, ALL professional education coursework must be completed with a "C" or better prior to student teaching. Current Student Teaching Candidates should also make every attempt to reach this goal to be best prepared for their classroom experience. Plan ahead. If you have any questions please consult with your academic advisor or come to the EC/ELE/MLE department office for additional information.

Multicultural Practicum Opportunities: A terrific opportunity awaits you in May through the "Toronto for Teachers", "Science and Schooling", and "EIU El Paso Experience" Multicultural Study programs. Registration forms are available through the EIU Study Abroad website (click here). Contact Judy Barford or Dan Carter right away if you think you might be interested in one or both of these programs.

TORONTO: EIU teacher candidates! Find the world within a city and in your own placement classroom! See yourself participating in one of the great school systems of North America, applying your professional skills with the children of the world as you explore the diversity and beauty of Toronto’s urban culture. Connect your coursework to the renowned Faculty of Education at York University as well as to the children of Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East in their schools and neighborhoods. Socialize with York University teachers candidates. Experience Canadian curriculum in ESL classrooms.  French immersion, anti-bias curriculum and multilingual approaches to literacy, especially drama. School placements include classrooms pre-k-12 and French immersion. Weekend excursions include Niagara Falls and Toronto attractions.
