Travel Teaching Opportunities for Faculty

  • England: Teach in the UK at Harlaxton College
Harlaxton College is two things: a self-contained study abroad campus of the University of Evansville and a 100-room Victorian manor in the English Midlands. Approximately 180 undergraduate college students, sophomore through seniors, attend each semester. Harlaxton College of the University of Evansville is a partner EIU study abroad program. In addition to offering a substantial discount to each EIU student who enrolls in this study abroad program, Harlaxton also reserves space for an EIU faculty member to recruit students for the program and to teach in the program for a semester. The teaching portion includes free room and board in the Harlaxton Manor.
  • England: Winchester one month opportunities
One month faculty exchange opportunities with the University of Winchester. Contact Wendy Williamson, Director of Study Abroad, for more information.
  • Netherlands : Teach in the Netherlands through MCTS
Eastern Illinois University belongs to the MCTS Consortium (Middelburg Center for Transatlantic Studies). This unique opportunity allows EIU faculty to teach and students to study abroad in Middelburg, a small university town in the Netherlands. The convenience of this program, and what makes is so successful, is that it is organized in modules. You can choose to teach in one or more of these blocks for 3.5 to 4 weeks OR you can stay for an entire semester. Faculty members (affiliate, tenured, or tenure-track) at EIU are encouraged to submit a proposal to teach in the MCTS program. MCTS provides for your accommodations, as well as a food stipend. The program is organized so that MCTS classes are offered Monday thru Thursday, allowing for 3-day weekends to travel throughout Europe. Middelburg is very centrally located, only 2 hours by train to Amsterdam or Brussels. Your department (or you) are responsible for your international transportation to/from the Middelburg. For more information or to submit a course proposal, contact Dr. Mike Havey, in the Psychology Department. Regular deadlines are October 1st for the following academic year (approximately one year in advance). This year, the deadline has been extended to December 1st for SU09, FA09, and SP10.
  • International Professor Exchange (IPE)
Individuals can list their professional areas of competence and indicate the kind of international exchange they desire: teaching and/or research, for example, short or long duration from, say, ten days to a year, preferred dates, location etc. These listings allow academic professionals to find interested counterparts in other countries, and to initiate an exchange.
