Program Highlights

The University of Winchester serves over 5,000 full-time and part-time students, so it is a little under half the size of EIU. Winchester has excellent programs in the Arts and Humanities as well as Education, Business, and Social Sciences. Winchester prides itself on being a very student-centered campus, and its small student body will help you feel at-home.

Winchester is a small city of 40,000 but is home to one of the oldest cathedrals (Winchester Cathedral) in the country. Winchester was once the capital of England and served as the site of Kings Castle and the mythical Round Table of King Arthur. Today, you will find plenty of activities in and around Winchester to keep you busy; Stonehenge is just a stones-throw away while the seaside resort towns of Bornemouth and Poole are just an hour away. London is also an hour by train.

Student Life

There are only a small number of international students at Winchester, so you will receive plenty of personalized attention; about 150 international students studied at Winchester last year. As a study abroad student, you will have access to all campus facilities at Winchester including the Martial Rose Library, student computer lab facilities (over 500, networked computers for student use on campus!), the Student Union, Sports Facilities Department activities and resources, the West Downs Performing Arts Centre, and others. There are many social, sporting, and cultural activities throughout the year for student to attend and participate in.

Many students enjoy Winchester's quiet, small town lifestyle. The city has plenty of restaurants, cafes, and pubs as well as social and cultural activities throughout the year. It is also home to the U.K.'s largest dance festival - Homelands. Traveling to the seaside or London is just a short train ride away and affordable flights are available for travel to other areas of Europe.

Housing

Most study abroad students stay in one of Winchester's Halls of Residence as housing is guaranteed for international students; however, you must apply for housing at least 3 months before the start of the semester to ensure your place.

Winchester has two, on-campus housing options available:

1. Halls of Residence - catered (partial meal-plan); closer to academic buildings; single rooms with your own sink
2. West Downs Student Village - self-catered (you provide your own meals); single rooms with our own sink; apartment-style living with shared kitchen facilities and equipment; slightly further from the main area of campus

If you prefer to live off-campus, Winchester's Student Housing Guide for Living Off-Campus will provide you with lots of helpful hints and information.

**You are responsible for making all housing arrangements and payments directly to the University of Winchester.**
