Comm Studies students raise $2,400 at Zumba Fest

Communication Studies majors from Eastern Illinois University raised $2,400 at a Zumba Fest fundraiser.

Zumba Fest:  Dance for a Difference was held on Saturday, December 3rd at the Lifespan Center, located just northeast of Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.  The event featured Zumba, a Latin-inspired dance fitness program. 

The $2,400 raised at the event goes to Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Services (SACIS).  SACIS is a non-profit organization, based in Charleston, that is committed to changing the attitudes that foster violence against others while educating and encouraging others to speak out against sexual assault.  It's believed to be the second most successful fundraiser for SACIS in the past 33 years.

Zumba Fest was organized by Communication Studies majors as part of a class project in the Conferences and Event Planning course, under the direction of Dr. Matt Gill.  As part of a hands-on learning project, students in the course planned and executed every aspect of the event, including gathering resources, promotion, planning, site development, execution, and evaluation.

Eastern Illinois University Communication Studies professor Dr. T. M. Linda Scholz was one of the five instructors for the event.
